The Virgo Solar Eclipse is amongst us today and so I wanted to take a moment to give you a little insight on what this eclipse will be opening for us.
Unfortunately, for those of us in North America, the eclipse is occurring overnight and will not be visible. For those of you in South Africa, you are in for a treat as the eclipse will occur towards sunrise and make for a beautiful morning treat (just ensure that you take proper safety precautions).
So while this Solar Eclipse is in Virgo, the theme for the next 6 months or so is one of looking at where perfectionism and self-criticism show up as a hindrance to your life. Virgo gives us the gift of intelligence and discernment as well as a taste for quality. When that gift is improperly managed, it becomes perfectionism and criticism.
Do you lose enjoyment of things because you’re critical of yourself or your work?
Do you prevent yourself from starting things because you feel that you won’t do it right or perfect?
Do you go over your work repeatedly or correct the help that others provide?
This eclipse will help you to see where your mind rains down negativity and blocks you from accepting the circumstances of your life. It is in that lack of acceptance that we begin to lose joy and create problems that really are not problems at all. This excessive attention to detail can also rob us of the bigger picture and may hinder our long-term progress in favour of insignificant details. This is inertia at its finest – making no progress forward because you’re too caught up in what’s already been done.
The funny thing is that this behavior is the very reverse of what creates true beauty in this world. Aristotle said it best: “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.”
So at this time, we need to be balanced in having joy in what we do and making sure we take care of the necessary details that ensure our success. How do you do this?
Discernment - the gift of Virgo.
Instead of questioning your work, question whether your need to perfect things is actually necessary to the success of what you’re doing. If you’re willing to surrender your perfection to the light of higher reason, you’ll find that your nervousness, dissatisfaction and irritation magically disappear.
So for the next 6 months or so, take the time to surrender that perfectionism and learn to accept things as they are. Every time your mind goes to criticize your work, compliment it instead. Every time you feel dissatisfied or the feel the need to re-do work that has been previously done by yourself or others, correct the glaring errors and leave it be.
And most of all, enjoy the process. Whatever you put into the process is what you get out of the product so you may as well make it joyful!
And so I wish all of you a joyful time of progression towards perfection for the next six months!
